Drager Alcotest 7410 EPAS

The Drager Alcotest 7410 is also called the EPAS is a portable evidential breath testing device. EPAS is an acronym for Evidential Preliminary Alcohol Screening device.  The rationale for a portable evidential breath testing device is that it allows California Highway Patrol or local police officers an opportunity to obtain an breath alcohol result which may be used as evidence in court approximately fifteen (15) minutes after the DUI suspect's driving. The Drager Alcotest 7410 EPAS is not currently used by members of the San Francisco Police Department.

The EPAS utilized the DrägerSensor which provides a fast result displayed on an illuminated panel to three digits. As well, this breath test device is able to take a second test shortly after the first which minimizes wait time between the second test which is required in California.

The Alcotest 7410 has a low blowing resistance, which makes it easier for those with breathing impairment conditions to submit a breath sample. However, it is possible to obtain a sample without the full cooperation of the DUI suspect by way of passive sampling which the manufacture of the Alcosensor IV Preliminary Alcohol Screeningdevice refers to as a manual trap.

The Drager Alcotest 7410 has the capability of storing data relating to more than 9,700 individual breath alcohol tests with date and time stamps.  However, unlike the Drager Alcotest 7110 MKIII C, the Alcotest 7410 is a single technology breath alcohol tester, operating solely as a fuel cell or electrochemical sensor device.  The Alcotest 7110 is a dual technology breath testing device utilizing both a fuel cell and infra red sample chamber.
